Hello!

I need a server to run some very intensive python scripts for a project. I’ve maxed out my home computers so looking for more powerful hardware. My primary goal is to get the most bang for my buck – this would likely be achieved by me building like a $10k custom rig at my house, but I don’t want to commit to such an upfront cost so I’m looking for cloud computing. I need CPU computing, the more cores the better. I have not written my code to run on GPU yet and need to validate a number of things before I go down that road.

I know one option are the cloud providers – Google cloud, AWS Azure, etc. They will get the job done but I have a really bad taste with AWS due to an infinite loop and improperly set budget resulting in a surprise high 4 figure bill a few years ago… their budget features are complex and easy to mess up. I’d really prefer something where I can control costs.

I just need an umnanaged Linux server. I don’t really care about cust service other than a reboot. So far the best value I’ve found is at Ionos either with their dedicated server or cloud computing. I need around 64GB ram, 16-32 cores, and about 2TB of nvme storage. Also when comparing prices I just look at the monthly rates, I don’t want to make a 1-2 year commitment as I don’t know if anything will come of my hobby project. Something in the $100-$300 monthly cost would be good.

So anyone have suggestions of providers? I could go with Ionos, but I wanted to throw this out in case anyone knows of something better.
